The birds seemed to communicate amongst themselves as the Brenner family began their journey to the hospital. Melanie was continuously slipping in and out of consciousness, but whenever she had her eyes open, she held looks of complete terror.

The atmosphere was relatively tense. Mitch drove at a speed faster than his current heart rate, and Lydia was trying her best to calm Cathy down while watching over Melanie at the same time. For the next several minutes, nobody said a word… but Cathy eventually broke the silence.

“B… b… b… BIRDS!” she screamed hysterically, pointing out of the window. “The birds… they’re coming!”

Mitch glanced to his right, then to his left, and noticed that they were coming from all angles. He began to speed up, going about sixty miles per hour now, with the idea of outrunning the multitude of animals. When four sparrows crashed headfirst into the windshield, causing it to shatter, he discovered that his idea would not be effective. He slammed on the brakes.

Lydia was startled. She stared in horror as the birds came in a flock towards Cathy. The young girl screamed as they began to peck at her helpless body: first the arms, then the neck, and last, the eyes.

Next, they went for Lydia and Mitch. Lydia was taken down quickly and easily, but Mitch put up more of a fight. After a struggle that seemed to go on forever, Mitch was finally defeated.

Lastly, there was Melanie. She was completely unconscious, despite the struggle that went on around her. The birds pecked at her feeble hands, then ascended gradually. Melanie never regained consciousness.

Since then, the bird attacks had subsided. When police officials came to investigate, all they found was rotting flesh, glass, and an empty cage... where the lovebirds once resided...
